Chapter 2: My Friendâs Little Sisterâs Friend Is a Pain in the Butt!
The moment I arrived at school the next day, I made a tactical advance right for the hallway where the first-yearsâ classrooms were. Needless to say, my target was my friendâs little sister...âs friend, Tachibana Asagi.
My direct strike on Iroha herself had unfortunately ended in failure yesterday, and Iâd been forced to retreat. My opponentâs defenses were tighter than I had anticipated, and I now realized that a simple head-on assault wouldnât work; it was time to sneak in from behind enemy lines. There was just one problem.
I had no idea what her friend looked like.
I knew her name, and that was it. I didnât even know which class she was in. If she was part of a delinquent group, I figured sheâd look like a delinquentâbut what did that mean, exactly? Was I looking for someone with a mohawk or a pompadour? Her hair would be dyed, right? But then, there were plenty of girls who dyed their hair brown or blonde as a fashion statement, rather than as a form of rebellion.
While I was busy pulling my metaphorical hair out, first-years filed past me, casting suspicious glances in my direction. They thought I was weird enough already; Iâd lose nothing by plucking up the courage to ask some questions. For some reason, I felt especially gutsy today.
âCan I ask you something?!â I called out to a girl whoâd just passed me.
âAh!â
Her surprise didnât put me off from launching into my question. âDâyou know a Tachibana Asagi? Sheâs sâposed to be a first-year.â
âU-Um, do I know her? Well, sheâs in my class... Um, who are you?â
âDoes it matter? I just wanna talk to Tachibana-san. Could you show me your classroom?â
âI can, but thereâd be no point.â
âWhy not?â
âTachibana-san doesnât come to school much,â the girl explained.
âOh...right. Yeah...same for Otoi. Sheâs in our class.â
Apparently, delinquents skipped more school days than they attended. It wasnât like I was a saint, or even just a stickler when it came to the rules, but in this case, Tachibana Asagiâs truancy was annoying. Didnât she know she could get in trouble for this kinda behavior?
âWhere can I find her, then?â I asked.
âIâm...not sure. I donât know much about her. There are rumors she likes to hit the town after dark, but I donât know where she hangs out during the day.â
âOkay... Thanks for your time. Iâll try asking someone else.â
I let the girl go and wandered down the hallway again in search of more sources.
I was asking around for a while, with no luck. I guess I shouldâve expected this. Why would anyone here know the whereabouts of some rebel who barely came to school? Especially when she belonged to Krimzon, who seemed particularly bad.
âIs there anything I can do at this point except give up?â
Iâd thought the most efficient way to get to the bottom of what Iroha was up to was through this Tachibana Asagi, but if she was going to be an even more difficult target, then I didnât have any options left.
